Yusuf Islam
believes that the negative focus by the media
on his statement regarding Pope Benedict XVI was
unnecessary, and that Yusuf Islam's respect for the
head of the Catholic Church and his position
remains unaltered. However, he believes the quote
the Pontiff chose was inappropriate and suggested
another quote by Mahatma Ghandi, whose interpretation
of Islam was much more peaceful. In Young India,
he wrote:
"I become more than ever convinced that it
was not the sword that won a place for Islam
in those days. It was the rigid simplicity, the
utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous
regard for pledges, his intense devotion to his friends
and followers and his intrepidity, his fearlessness,
his absolute trust in God and his own mission.
These and not the sword carried everything before
them and surmounted every obstacle."
In response, Yusuf has decided to speed the re-release
of his earlier book on God's Messenger,
'The Life of The Last Prophet',
to help people see another side of this great
religion which links to Christianity and Judaism,
though the life and story of the man who was sent
to represent it. The Audio/Book will be available
from his label, Mountain of Light.
Yusuf is also sending a personally signed copy
of the book to the Pope for his library; hoping
the understanding and dialogue between people
of the great faiths of Islam and Christianity
will advance towards a more enlightened future
of knowledge, charity and peaceful co-existence.

The influence
of Muhammad's prophethood is visible in everything
that the world now contains: beliefs and patterns
of thought, culture and civilization, morals and
modes of living, knowledge and learning. In short,
all spheres of human endeavor. Strange indeed,
therefore, that so many people on the face of
the earth today have little or no knowledge of
the life and mission of this last great Prophet
of God and his historical impact on the world
that we live in.
This Special Edition release of the biography
combines the book and CD with the spoken word
recording by Yusuf Islam and contains selected
verses of the Qur’an, recited by the renowned
Egyptian Qari’ (reciter), Shaikh Muhammad
Al-Minyaoui. It also includes the song Tala’a
al-Badru ‘Alayna, and a beautiful rendition
of the adhan (call to prayer).
Format: Digibook
Book: 64 pages
CD: 1hour 11mins approx
Available: Late October 2006

Yusuf
Islam officially launches Footsteps in the Light |
| |
Dubai:
Yusuf Islam and Jamal Records officially launched
Footsteps in the Light in the UAE at Virgin Megastores
in the Mall of the Emirates. It was a packed event
which brought together the mixed and varied expatriate
population who enjoyed an afternoon with Yusuf.
Yusuf Islam speaking to reporters indicated the
reasons for him using his musical talents more
these days, he said "Recent events, have
been used by a large portion of the world to judge
Islam. That is why we need greater communication,
it is the field in which more Muslims need to
be involved".

Fans from around the world who form a large part
of the UAE's ex-pat community had an opportunity
to meet a man who they hold very dear. Toby Brown
a German tourist said "I have known him as
Cat Stevens and I love his music, what Yusuf has
to say is right and is a message of peace".
Another fan said "the world is highly polarised
now, and religion has returned to occupy a pivotal
role even in international politics. It is through
people like Yusuf that there could be better understanding
and harmony among nations of the world".
Yusuf throughly enjoyed meeting with everyone
and was moved by comments from fans of how the
songs had positively affected them. He was clear
in mentioning many a time that "whatever
I am able to give to you, is given to me by The
One, The Almighty".
